Child marriage foiled

A girl here has foiled the attempt of her parents to get her married at an early age. She filed complaints against her parents and the marriage was stopped. Fifteen-year-old Binita Tamata of Majkot-3 in the district filed complaints with the local children’s club and the Ward Citizens Forum against her parents as they forcibly tried to get her married to 20-year-old Milan BK of Jaganath-3, Dailekh district. The marriage ceremony was scheduled for Wednesday and Binita’s father Sagate BK had called the bride groom’s party but it was stopped based on the complaint, president of the Majkot-3 Ward Citizen Forum, Bir Bhaadur Shahi, said. President of the Children’s Network, Bhabindra Thapa, said they convinced the parents of both the bride and the bride groom that child marriage was illegal and the marriage stopped.
